The final Share Your Story before we break for the summer to focus on Summer of Better Stories sees us take up a slightly different format. We've invited 9 people who live, trade, sleep or work on London Road to come and tell their story in 7 minutes or less of how they ended up on London Road.
Once described as being a road where every shop looks like it used to be a Woolworths, London Road has been undergoing lots of changes over the last few years, a revamped Open Market, a re-work designed to suit pedestrians and the creep of gentrification. Lots of people love this, seeing it as a massive improvement to a run-down part of the city, others struggle with the changes to the road they've called home all their lives. As part of Know My Neighbour week we're aiming to bring together lots of different voices, to hear what we have in common and to think about neighbourliness. From the homeless person that sleeps on London Road each night to the artists working in studios, from local community leaders to people who have lived on London Road all their life, we're seeking to bring together as diverse a representation of London Road as possible and share stories that unite.
This event is part of Know My Neighbour week, and they are offering A FREE COFFEE/TEA IF YOU BRING A NEIGHBOUR ALONG. Which is very kind of them. In keeping with our ethos of not just hearing stories but living better ones, why not knock on a neighbour and invite them to come along too? Just bring some proof of address and the first drink will be on KMN.
Doors will open at 7pm and we expect to hear from the first speaker around 7.20pm, so try to get there on time. Our events are pay-as-you-feel if you let us know you're coming in advance. Pay-as-you-feel tickets can be paid for using credit card online, or you can register now and bring along a cash donation on the night. Pay-as-you-feel will be unavailable on the day of the event and any walk-ups will pay £5 on the door (if there is still space for you!)...
In the spirit of neighbourliness and bringing communities together this event is FREE for London Road residents thanks to the kindness of the London Road Healthy Neighbourhood Fund. Again, please bring proof of address so we can verify for numbers for our funder.
There will be a cash bar available on the evening serving hot and cold drinks. Please also note that One Church Gloucester Place has 10 steps up into the venue, if this is a difficulty for you please get in touch and we can try and make suitable accessibility arrangements.
We'll be releasing information about who the speakers will be over the course of the month so stay tuned to this page, as well as our social media pages for info. This will be the last Share Your Story event before September - over the summer we will be focusing our time and energy into running Summer of Better Stories and having fun in the sun.
