The People Who Put Food On Our Plates with Will Sheffield, Collette Haynes and Adam Buckingham

  • Redwood Cafe Trafalgar Street Brighton, BN1 4ER United Kingdom (map)

For the first Share Your Story of 2016 we're going to be looking at food and drink - things that we love but often simply take for granted. We've invited three speakers passionate about sustainability and all taking a positively different approach to food/drink production than what has become the norm.

Doors will be open from 7.30pm for you to find a seat and order food and drink, with the first speaker sharing soon after 7.45pm. We don't do advanced booking and all our events are pay-as-you-feel on the door in order to make them as inclusive as possible.

Speaker bios

Will Sheffield - Will is a Sussex free-range and organic meat farmer. He runs and owns his farm based at Clayton Farm in Mayfield, Sussex. Will raises turkeys, pigs and cattle the old-fashioned way with lots of space to roam - the exact opposite of how the vast majority of meat is produced in the UK today. Carnivore or vegetarian, Will's down-to-earth and honest approach will interest everyone.

Collette Haynes - Collette and Pete took on Ashurst Farm in 1994 and established their veg box scheme as a Community Supported venture organised by Common Cause Co-operative - a social enterprise based in Lewes, East Sussex. Since then they have gone from strength to strength, growing by word of mouth as they deliver delicious organic veg across Sussex.

Adam Buckingham - Adam brought the Real Junk Food Project to Brighton, serving up delicious dishes made from intercepted waste food every Friday lunchtime at One Church Gloucester Place, and beyond at various times (they've even catered at a wedding and the houses of parliament!). They feed hundreds of people a week on a pay as you feel basis, all from food that would otherwise be thrown away.
